I often travel to Nicaragua, as it is one of my favorite destination in Central America. My last visit in Nicaragua inspired me to write a short three part series that will be divided as followed:
Part 1 – The state of Nicaragua seen from my eyes
Part 2 – Things to do while in Nicaragua
Part 3 – Why Nicaragua is not ready for a tourism boom
I will write about the state of Nicaragua as I saw it this past weekend. This is a highly opinionated blog post, and is not based on any scientific research. This will be Nicaragua as seen through the eyes of a single traveler.
I have had the pleasure of visiting Nicaragua the past four years. As it stands, I need to leave the country every 3 months, and Nicaragua just happens to be my number one option due to its amazing culture and close proximity. I have had the chance to visited Leon, Managua, and Granada. Granada is by far my favorite, thanks to its richness in culture and incredibly beautiful city layout. This last visit however has left me with a poor taste, that is in no fault to the people, but more to the consequence of the world economy.
Living in Costa Rica, I have not really fet the consequences of the economic meltdown. I have heard many people speaking about it, but not really seen how Costa Rica is different from the way it was two years ago. If anything, I continue to see growth, where companies like Western Union choose to close shop in the states (St-Louis), and head out to Costa Rica due to the current state of the economy.
Nicaragua, unlike Costa Rica, has obviously not enjoyed any benefits or the current economic state, and has severely digressed in the past year or so. Please read part one of my special three part series to see just how different Nicaragua is now compared to before.
