Pacuare River Rafting

Without a doubt my favorite activity in Costa Rica. Rafting is Costa Rica is good all around, but rafting down the Pacuare river is as good as it gets. National Geographic claims this to be the 5th best overall river in the world. Stretching over 30 kms, and offering over 40 rapids, class 3 and four, this river guarantees to keep your adrenaline running. I suggest doing the two day trip, although this option is more than double the price and you do not really get to do more rafting, you just take your time.

  2. Hey Patrick!
I find your articles really amusing and glad that I stumbled on this site researching Costa Rica. I’ve spent a couple summers in Thailand when school was out and was looking to do the same in Costa Rica. But I haven’t the slightest clue where to go. I loved the description of the vibe in Puerto Viejo but not the dangerous beaches. Jaco was a quick thought but it seems to be too much of the “spring breaker” atmosphere that I detest. Any recommendations on cheap spot to chill in C.R. for a couple months?????? Much obliged.

  3. Hi Jilian,

Glad you enjoyed some of my small articles about Costa Rica. So you want to find a cheap place for a couple of months… Be careful, as that story sounds like mine, and a couple of months has now turned into four years…

So to get to the point, you can try going to Samara Beach or Mal Pais. They seem like places that fit exactly what you are looking for. I work for a travel agency here in Costa Rica, and you could write me directly if you wanted some more info on finding a place to stay or getting around. I also have some contacts in Samara that could surely help you out! My email is pbrunelle@travelext.com

    Good luck!

  4. this is by far the best thing we did. it was such a rush especially if you have never white water rafting before. there are class 3 and 4 rapids and the whole things last about 4 hours which includes a riverside lunch. the guides were great to. i recommend getting the optional photo cd they provide. the guide who takes the pictures does a great job of capturing you in the moment.
