Four Seasons Beach

Four Season Beach in Costa Rica is one of the most known locations in the country, and also one of the least visited. This is due to the location of the beach and the borderline privatization of the beach by the ultra exclusive Four Seasons Resort that is host to many of the World´s most famous celebrities and athletes. This so called privatization of the beach is quite the controversial topic in Costa Rica, as by law each beach must be accessible and open to Costa Ricans.

Four Seasons Resort treads a fine line in making their beach available to the public, even going as far as offering a shuttle, but they ensure the entire experience of having them help you is as unpleasant as possible. They essentially make sure if you go once, that you would not want to go a second time. And it is true, if you can have your pick of amazing beaches, why would you go to this beach, and have all the headaches that come with it. Some people hope they´ll spot the occasional celebrity, but odds are, these people will be staying in the rooms, and not want to venture out where us common folk can be seen.

The beach itself is quite beautiful, although it does not rank on the top of my list of must visit beaches in Costa Rica. Manuel Antonio, Flamingo Beach, and some of the beaches near Puerto Viejo such as Punta Uva. The beach at Four Seasons is located in the Papagayo region, that is also home to some big names hotels such as the Papagayo Allegro, Giardini de Papagayo, and the Hilton Papagayo. You won´t find many towns on your drive towards the Papagayo region. Most hotels are located just 20 minutes from the airport in Liberia, meaning there are a lot of options when it comes to transportation. If you are flying in to San Jose, than you can expect a four and a half hour drive to get to the Papagayo region.
