I write this post with the idea of warning those who are looking for action and are thinking about doing the hanging bridges tour in Arenal or Monteverde. Don´t do it! Now, I can understand how someone can enjoy this activity, such as a bird watcher or a complete nature lover, but this tour is only suitable if you fit in one of those two categories. Now the guides are great, and they teach many interesting tidbits, but this causes this tour to be almost dreadfully slow. What made my experience particularly boring was the young couple with their booklet stopping the group every 5 minutes or so to ask a question.

All of the hanging bridges in the country are essentially the same. They include 12 to 28 bridges, each of which tend to be of different altitudes. These bridges do offer spectacular views of the jungle and with the right guide will allow you to see much more than if you were walking down bellow. But expect to walk for at least two hours, again, depending on the guide and group you are with.

Would I do this activity again? No way. Would I recommend it to my aunt who is a particular fan of birds, absolutely. So as always, it all depends on your tastes and what you are looking for on this particular trip.

The Lunar Eclipse was just as striking in Costa Rica as anywhere else in the World.
What made the sight so spectacular was the absolutely clear night sky. These pictures were taken from the Central Valley, close to Heredia. The peak hour to watch the eclipse was at 9:26pm local time.

A referendum on October 7, 2007 confirmed that Costa Ricans have officially decided on approving a free trade agreement with the United Status. The vote was close, just as everyone expected, with a margin of victory of just 4%. What this means for Costa Rica, according to the Yes campaign, are more jobs and more investment within the country by the United States. It also gives stability to the companies already stationed here such as HP, IBM and Proctor and Gamble.

This should also lend a helping hand to the tourism industry as further investment and more jobs can only help an already booming industry.

Right away I want to warn all of those afraid of hights of structures that are not the most solid to stay clear of this activity. I have witness many people freak out in the trees wishing they could be anywhere else but here. As for myself, I can´t get enough of this canopy. What makes it so special to me are the 45 minutes of horseback riding it takes to get to the area and 45 minutes back to the base. Most horses in Costa Rica are in pretty rough shape, but not these beauties.

The canopy adventure itself is pretty wild with 15 cables and amazing views of the surroundings. You can´t see the volcano from the viewpoints, so that kinda sucks, but this place is still definitely worth the journey.

Guanacaste has recently experienced massive flooding that has recently been declared a national disaster. Many of the roads in the region have been affected and many of the local homes have been destroyed.

Luckily for Costa Rica, China has just stepped in and donated $48 million to assist in the rebuilding and recovery. This donation is considered one of the first major impacts of Costa Rica voting Yes in a recent referendum to a free trade agreement with the US. China hopes to export products through Costa Rica to the US in order to avoid tariffs on their goods.
