Barack Obama is Big Deal in Costa Rica

Senetor Obama’s victory last night has gotten quite the reaction here in Costa Rica. The national and local media are focusing on the fact that he is the first black president to be elected in the United States. There is a general sense of good will towards him and Costa Rican are excited about the prospect of working with him. They are worried he may cut back on free trade, which has proven to be very beneficial to Costa Rica and their economy. This morning, as I was walking out of my house, my Costa Rican neighbor high fived me and said “We won!” Of course, with neither of us being American, this was a strange thing to say, however, I can understand why he felt that way.

  1. You understand why he felt that way because Costa Rica will lose jobs once Barack cuts up the free trade agreements you hold so dear?
